Classes for Next Academic Year 2025-2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope this letter finds you well. As we approach the end of the current school year, we would like to inform you about your child’s upcoming transition to a new class and which member of staff will be your child’s class teacher for 2025-2026 academic year. I have highlighted where teachers are new to school. We have also included names of support staff who will be working within the year group also.

SEND
We are currently allocating SEND support staff and the Inclusion team will be informing pupils and parents of this very shortly. This is to ensure there is a smooth handover for the pupils and staff. Before the end of term, children with EHCP plans will have a transition booklet personalised, which should be used over the summer to prepare your child for their return.
Leadership changes
Following the de-amalgamation between our school and Thamesmead, we have restructured our middle leadership team. Previously known as Year Group Leaders, these roles have now evolved into Phase Leaders to better support our growing collaboration with Thamesmead and Hawksmoor.
As Thamesmead and Hawksmoor are just a 5-minute walk apart, their middle leadership teams will be working more closely together, sharing resources and best practices. At Windrush Charlton, our Phase Leaders will now oversee two year groups each and will play a key role in supporting the senior leadership team and maintaining high standards both in and out of the classroom.
Our new Phase Leaders are:
- Kelysha Rollock– Phase Leader for Reception, Year 1, and Year 2
- Chloe Mace– Phase Leader for Years 3 and 4
- Shauna Corbett– Phase Leader for Years 5 and 6
These leaders bring a wealth of experience and I am confident they will approach their new roles with the same enthusiasm and rigour they have always shown.
Additionally, Kelly Price, who has been our Year 2 Leader, will now lead Years 1 and 2 at Thamesmead and Hawksmoor and wish her all the very best as she gets to know her new team. We also welcome Taz Aktar, who will be joining Year 6 from Hawksmoor and taking on the role of Trust Curriculum Lead—an opportunity she is very excited about.
All of our leaders will continue to work closely together, and we deeply value the strong partnership we’ve built over the years. I am truly excited to see our leadership team at Windrush Charlton grow and thrive, and I know they will continue to lead our teachers with high expectations and dedication.
I have also taken the decision this year to work four days a week so I can spend more time juggling family commitments and being a Headteacher! On the day I am not in school, Jo Marchant. the Trust lead, will be on site as well as both of the deputies so the school will be in good hands.
Saying Goodbye
We say a very sad goodbye to Ms. Lleshi and Ms. Buckley who are both relocating out of London. We wish them both all the very best of luck and happiness for their future endeavours and know they will be greatly missed by all of us here.
Preparing for Transitioning to a new class
We understand that change can bring a mix of excitement and anxiety for both children and families. Please rest assured that we are fully committed to making this transition as smooth and positive as possible for everyone involved.
Over the coming weeks, children will have the opportunity to meet their new class teacher, who will spend time getting to know them and beginning to build those important relationships. They will also visit their new classroom—and for some, explore a new floor of the school—which will help them feel more familiar and confident.
To further support this transition, we will be holding two special assemblies focused on preparing for change. In addition, from Monday, 23rd June 2025, we will begin a series of in-class activities designed to help children reflect on their current year and look ahead to the next. These activities will include celebrating their achievements, creating a “learning passport” to share with their new teacher, and participating in story sessions and circle time discussions about change and new beginnings.
Finally, teacher handover meetings will take place to ensure a smooth and consistent approach to each child’s care and learning as they move into their new class.
How can I help my child prepare for change?
As we approach the upcoming changes, there are several ways you can help your child feel more confident and prepared. Talking positively about the transition can help build excitement and ease any worries. Reading stories or books that explore new experiences and changes can also be a great way to open up conversations. Encourage your child to express how they’re feeling, and reassure them that it’s completely normal to feel both excited and a little nervous. You can also use the transition booklets we’ve provided to help your child become more familiar with what to expect.
To further support children who may find the change of class or teacher particularly challenging, we will be inviting a small group to visit their new classroom and meet their new teacher on Friday 29th August at 2:30 PM, ready for their first day back at school on Monday 1st September. This visit is intended to help reduce any anxiety before the first day of school. Teachers will be identifying children who may benefit from this opportunity and will inform the office accordingly. However, if you feel your child would benefit from attending and you are available to accompany them at that time, please email your child’s teacher by Monday 7th July to request an invitation.
We are here to support both you and your child through this important time. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.
Best wishes,
Sally McAvoy
